Well, if you want to make a "real" game that can exist on lots of platforms, is easily accessible by all, and will advance your career/experience in a useful direction, then Unity/Godot/Unreal is the way to go. Its not easy, nothing in indie dev is, but its hell of a lot easier to make good money off of if you do well than anything else. Especially to new indie devs looking at their options.īottom of the line is, roblox is a great way for any indie devs to make a comfortable living. Not meaning to come off as rude or anything, roblox is just very poorly understood and it's not helpful to keep spreading misinformation. ![]() Roblox takes a fair amount in royalty/tax/whatever you want to call it, but they also are absolutely massive and the ease of getting thousands of players into your game spending is unparalleled.Ĭomes at a cost of not being able to target older audiences and a plethora of other things to consider when choosing your engine of choice but anything has pros and cons. This includes networking, servers to run your games, free powerful and reliable datastores. ![]() I myself make a (very) comfortable living off the platform, probably more than 90% of indie devs because of what the platform provides, all at 0 cost. Roblox is paying out 250 million dollars this year to developers(most of these developers are small teams of one to 5 people). I'd advise you do some research before making assumptions ![]() The points about your games not working if roblox dies is true, but your statements that the outside game dev community won't accept you or, more importantly, that it is not profitable is misinformed. Roblox is mostly a game engine just like any other. ![]()
